Pallina’s Poem

Submissions are always open.

These are the submission guidelines for Pallina’s Poem (for the month), and they are for the benefit of both the writer and the Editor, Suna Afshan. Neglecting to read and follow these simple notes does show and will result in rejected submissions.

To send in your work, please use this form, however, ensure you read the below guidelines before sending your work…

• The Pallina’s Poem series will see the online publication of a single poem on the first Tuesday of each calendar month. The inaugural publication will be Tuesday 1st August 2023. For this, and for all future first Tuesdays, poets are requested to submit a single poem for consideration.

• This poem must be entirely unpublished; if you’ve posted snippets online or on social media, the Editor considers that to have been previously published, and it should not reach the submissions inbox.

• The Editor is interested in page poetry, and that poetry can be of any length or form. We accept works of translation, too, provided you have the relevant permissions.

• While we discourage simultaneous submissions, the Editor understands that poets have ever had issues with this sort of fidelity. However, if you are making a simultaneous submission, please try to notify us as soon as possible if your work is accepted elsewhere. You can use this form to contact the Editor.

• You are very welcome to submit a poem even if you have no prior publication history. We do not close our submissions to unpublished poets.

• Send one Word Document prefaced with a cover letter followed by your poem, set in a presentable serif font, the cover letter including a 50-word biography as well as a brief note about your poem. Using Word makes it far simpler for an exchange of edits (should they be required) especially if your poem is selected for publication, reducing the Editor’s administrative burden.

• It’s the nature of a series like this that the poems rejected will far outweigh those accepted as Pallina’s Poem for the Month, please forgive the Editor if you’re rejected on multiple occasions. In the event of a declined submission, the Editor cannot enter into discussions regarding the work. If you require specific editorial feedback, Pallina offers a paid critique service here.

• If one of your poems is selected, allow 12 months from the month of publication before resubmitting new work for consideration.

• Please allow one poem to be considered before submitting another.

• If after eight weeks there has been no response from the Editor in regards to your poem, do enquire about the status of your submission using this form.
